California DIY, shipping container tiny home and a cargo trailer bedroom

another little cutie house

Love some of their ideas, and philosophies about smaller spaces, repurposing items, such as the old theater chairs, and working less to live more life :-)

And check out this table design... very cool for small space saving, flips up on both sides and drawers in the middle.

I'm reminded....

This weekend has been a busy, yet strange one. Work, work, work, work.... but eye on the prize right? And then.... odd interactions with demons from the past - ICK! And I am reminded, how good my life is nowadays, how happy I am, and how life always turns out the best for those who make the best of it! :-) Life is good and I'm a pretty happy camper!

How to - Growing Papaya from Seed. - South Florida

OMG!! Who knew it would be this easy.... I can't wait to try this. Have read 9-12 months from seed to fruit.

Unusual Fruits

Ok, this one had a bunch of good ones, except his additional comments say "it's not longan" so not sure on that one...

While researching "The Crazy Pineapple Dream" for an island business name

I came across this ..... it was posted under "what does it mean to see pineapples in your dreams?"

"To see a pineapple in your dream, represents self-confidence, ambition and success. You are self-assured in what you do. Alternatively, the pineapples symbolize hospitality. It could mean that you need to relax or take a vacation."

And.... I think this sounds like me :-)   I think it's a good sign.

More packing and shipping...

Yay!!! My first set of boxes finally arrived in HI all in tact, yet they took 6 weeks to get there! What the hell? Everyone says this is the norm... like chill it's Hawaiian time.... ok. But it makes me realize I've got to plan way ahead. So, I've shipped 3 more boxes this week, ummmm that would put them there mid-July...  I've got about 4 more boxes of personal items I'd like to ship. I also have about 3 or 4 boxes of my lavender business I will ship, mostly just scaling that down by August and when ordering new supplies will have them shipped there. One last detail I've almost got figured out is shipping my bike. I've secured a free bike box and found a friend that knows how to break my bike down for shipping, plus they will do it with me so I can put it back together when in arrives in HI. This will save me about $100... shipping the bike will be almost $200 YIKES!

Creating home remedies with herbs and weeds

I intend to plant a medicinal garden patch just for this reason :-) Here's another good article on the topic found on "Common Sense Homesteading"

Yet another resource I want to save

http://nativeplants.hawaii.edu/

Martha Stewart meets Off Grid LOL!

Someone told me this the other day... "you'll be like Martha Stewart Off Grid" and ... well... sadly they are pretty much right on. Even though I have an intense interest in off grid systems, simple living techniques, frugal tips and the whole less is more thinking... I do have tend to spruce things up a bit :-)  I love creating my space, indoors and out. Seriously, this girl ain't no Martha Stewart, but a little paint and a refurbished cool old chair... it's a good thing! haha!

Hawaii animal quarentine process....

Well.... you know this is gonna be involved when the brochure alone is 25 pages.... sigh...

http://hawaii.gov/hdoa/ai/aqs/aqsbrochure.pdf

Grace is totally NOT into this LOL! Her first visit included updating vacinations, her next visit a week later will be blood draw to send off to a Kansas lab to confirm no rabies (this has to be done no earlier than 120 days prior to moving) and also we will test for heartworm, her next visit will be booster on the lepto vac, she needs to get on all the preventative stuff, Front Line etc, then her very last visit we will micro chip her (big needle and not pleasant). Anyways... this is not to mention I still have to go purchase a travel crate.... gonna cost some bucks to take this girl along...

Well.... it's a start....

From Cascadia.....

Ann Wurden,

Welcome to Cascade Vehicle Shipping, Inc. Below is your written quote and my contact information as your Shipping Consultant. As a company, our goal is to provide unmatched customer service to each and every one of our clients. We want you to feel like our only client.

I work on a pay-for-performance basis where you won't have to pay a dime until your vehicle has been loaded on the transporter. At no obligation, feel free to contact me direct any time. When you do contact me, please inform me of the range of quotes you are receiving. I have the ability to price match any reasonable lower quote you receive!

$987 (after $30 rebate *see website for details) is the quoted price to ship your 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 on an Open carrier from Seattle, WA to Hilo, HI. This includes a deposit of $195 due at the time your vehicle is picked up. The balance is due to the driver at the time your vehicle is delivered.

A quote is automatically generated at the time a shipping request is made and emailed to the address specified. System generated quotes are based on a standard size sedan. Your shipping consultant will review the quote for accuracy. Quotes are subject to modification based on the type of vehicle being transported (SUV, truck, van or minivan, etc.), multiple vehicles, inoperable vehicles, and vehicles which have any non-stock parts (oversized tires, lifts, light bars and winches, etc.).

Before booking with any particular company, we highly recommend you visit www.transportreviews.com. This is a powerful consumer-based website where individuals who have transported vehicles write about their personal experience. It puts the decision-making back in your hands, exactly where it belongs. Follow the link below to read about what clients have had to say about Cascade Vehicle Shipping, Inc. as well as other companies providing you with quotes.

I look forward to the opportunity of working with you. Feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance.

Regards,

Blaine

Centipedes... gross....

I'm usually not a big squirmer over snakes, spiders, bugs and other thugs... but these things gross the hell out of me. The picture is from a facebook friend on Maui, she said it climbed out from under her car seat, while driving... she also said she about had a heart attack! I can see why!

After looking a bit on the Internet I've found that technically centipedes are not poisonous, but can leave a hell of a sting... and people react differently to it, from slight to severe with the need of medical attention. Mostly they are reported to be solitary and prefer dark, warm, moist areas, typically outdoors, but some do venture inside and then hide in clothes or other dark scary places.... ick!

Check out her website at http://www.tikitales.com/  I love her stuff!

Sorting, packing, shipping.... shipping, packing, sorting...

Ok... I'm glad to have had time to go through all this sorting and packing and resorting and repacking and finally.... yes finally..... starting to ship some things!! After my divorce a year ago, I was glad to have gotten away with any of my own belongings (nasty ex wanted EVERYTHING even if they weren't his prior to our marriage). I felt like, whew, at least I have these things to start a new life. But now, my feelings have changed quite a bit. I am looking at many of these things and realizing, they are just that - things. Sure there are family heirlooms that I treasure and will never part with, but some of the family heirlooms I'm handing on to other members of the family. If they want to love these items, so be it, I'm glad they are being appreciated. I will keep several things in ONE storage unit in MT to deal with in the future, also in case, just in case, I do return. I have gone through and sorted what ships, what stores, and what sells. I'd like to ship some furniture, but it's turning out to not be the case. I will see after I get there if I want to spend the money to do that. Also, I've always felt that, it's a small island, why bring yet more stuff to it, when I can likely find it all there.
\
One thing I keep thinking about is my glass and enamel kitchen storage containers. I'd like to have them, many people in HI say you will need to cover everything. I'm not a fan of plastic, but it holds up well in the HI environment, so does glass.... but likely not enamelware... and I want my cast iron pans!!!

Things like these go!
Things like these sell!

More small space pics I want to save

I started this blog as a way to store info and ideas for the future... I also cut out and tear out pics from magazines for the same purpose. I wanted to share these ideas as they are really appealing to me. These pics were from an article in the Big Sky Journal, titled "Montana Microhomes" by Seonaid B Campbell, photos by Lynn Donaldson
